Galolhu North MP Mohamed Ibrahim has requested Parliament to investigate delays in the payment of disability allowances distributed through the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).

In a letter addressed to Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the lawmaker said the state has a constitutional obligation to provide support and protection to persons with disabilities.

Mohamed Ibrahim noted that the Act on the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities guarantees financial assistance for eligible individuals. However, he said allowances paid through the NSPA have recently not been deposited on their scheduled dates.

According to the MP, many recipients depend on the allowance as their primary source of income to meet medical expenses, personal needs and day-to-day living costs.

He stated that repeated delays in payments have created difficulties for recipients and their families.

The lawmaker requested that the matter be referred to the relevant parliamentary committee for review and oversight.

He also called for Parliament to seek explanations from the NSPA and the government regarding the delays and to ensure measures are put in place to guarantee payments are made by a fixed date each month.

Mohamed Ibrahim said establishing a reliable payment system is necessary to ensure recipients receive their allowances without interruption.
