A Civil Court hearing on a request for a temporary injunction in the dispute between Future Homes Pvt Ltd and the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) was cancelled on Sunday after the plaintiff was unable to attend.

The case concerns an eviction notice issued by FAM requiring Future Homes, managed by former national football team midfielder Ibrahim Fazeel, also known as Oppo, to vacate a building constructed on land in the Maafannu Stadium area.

Under an agreement signed in 2023 with FAM's previous leadership, Future Homes was granted the use of a 2,700-square-foot plot of land on a rent-free lease for 25 years.

The company subsequently constructed a two-storey building on the site, which had originally been allocated to FAM for the development of a football arena.

Following repeated requests for the company to vacate the premises, FAM warned that it would take legal action. Future Homes responded by filing a case in the Civil Court, arguing that the current FAM leadership's decision breaches the existing agreement.

The company has asked the court to issue a temporary injunction to suspend FAM's eviction decision and prevent any action to remove the company or clear the building until the court delivers its final judgment.

The hearing was scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Sunday but was cancelled after the plaintiff failed to appear.

The case is being heard by Civil Court Chief Judge Maryam Waheedha.

In its court filing, Future Homes said the building was constructed in accordance with the agreement reached with FAM.

The company stated that the project included clearing and cleaning the southern side of the turf ground and constructing changing room facilities. It said the rent-free lease was granted in return for carrying out those works.

Future Homes also said the ground floor is currently being used to store construction materials valued at around MVR 3 million while construction is completed.

According to the filing, the first floor was intended to be used as an event hall to generate income from the company's investment. The company also said it removed rubble, stones and construction waste from the site as part of its agreement with FAM.
