A 24-year-old Maldivian has died after contracting measles, health authorities have confirmed.
The deceased was identified as Ibrahim Dhiyaash Rasheed, 24, of Dreamlight/GDh. Fiori. He tested positive for measles last month and died while receiving treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said the number of confirmed measles cases in the Maldives has increased to 121.
The HPA has advised members of the public to seek medical attention immediately if they develop symptoms such as a fever and a red rash.
The agency also advised people seeking treatment to wear a face mask and avoid using public transport.
Individuals who are tested for suspected measles have been advised to remain in isolation until their test results are available.
The HPA further urged people with symptoms to avoid crowded places to help reduce the spread of the disease.
