Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said he was not invited to Sunday's official Independence Day ceremony, describing it as the first time he had not received an invitation since his school years.
The official ceremony marking the Maldives' 61st Independence Day was held at the Social Centre and attended by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and other invited guests.
In a post on X, Nasheed said he had not been invited to the event.
"This is the first time since I started schooling that I have not been invited to the Independence Day ceremony," he wrote.
"Even while I was in prison, I received an invitation."
The President's Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment on whether an invitation had been sent to the former president.
During the ceremony, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu conferred the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddeen on four individuals in recognition of their contributions to the country.
The President also presented long-service awards to 66 state employees in recognition of their service to the Maldives.
