Police recover stolen wallet, MVR 10,000 after Hulhumalé robbery
When Ijaz was presented before the court for a remand hearing, he was ordered to be held in custody for 10 days.
Police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of a wallet from an expatriate riding a bicycle in Hulhumalé Phase 1.
In a statement issued on Thursday, police said two men on a motorcycle snatched the wallet from the cyclist near FW Residence on Sunday.
The wallet contained MVR 10,000. The incident was reported to police at around 11:25 pm that night.
Following the report, officers from the Hulhumalé Response and Patrol team, working with investigation units, launched an operation to identify the suspects.
After reviewing CCTV footage, police located and impounded the motorcycle believed to have been used in the offence at around 12:30 am.
Police said 40-year-old Ijaz Naseer of Athamaage, Gaafu Dhaalu Rathafandhoo, was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the case.
A second suspect was also identified during the investigation and arrested under a court order on Wednesday. However, police said he has since been released from custody and did not disclose further details regarding his release.
Police said the stolen wallet and the MVR 10,000 it contained have been recovered.
