Police have arrested a 24-year-old Nepali man over the alleged assault and robbery of a foreign woman on a road in Raa Atoll Madduvari.
The man was arrested under a court order on Saturday, police said on Sunday. He was subsequently taken before a court for a decision on his detention and remanded for five days.
According to police, the case was reported on Friday and involves allegations that the man assaulted the woman and attempted to take money from her.
A video of the incident circulating on social media shows the man restraining the woman on the ground during the daytime. He appears to place a hand over her mouth as she cries and attempts to call for help.
Police said the case remains under investigation.
