Third foreigner held in Malé kidnapping case

A third foreign national has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and robbery of a foreigner in Malé last month.
Police confirmed that 28-year-old Bangladeshi national MD Alaluddin Hiridoi was taken into custody last Friday. The Criminal Court has ordered his remand for 15 days.
Court documents state that Alaluddin faces charges of unlawful detention. He has denied the allegations. Police records submitted to court indicate that the incident involved violence.
Police said the kidnapping took place on 15 August inside a guesthouse in Machangolhi. A Bangladeshi man was allegedly assaulted and robbed of a large sum of money, though the amount has not been disclosed.
Two other Bangladeshi nationals, both aged 37, were arrested on the night of the incident. They were initially remanded and later ordered to remain in custody for another 15 days when their first remand period expired on 30 August.
According to police, Alaluddin was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the same incident. Investigations are ongoing.
