Students return to official school uniforms after 4 months

The Ministry of Education has authorised schools to resume the use of official school uniforms, four months after students were permitted to wear activity uniforms due to high temperatures.

The change comes after students were instructed in March to attend school in activity uniforms as the Maldives experienced prolonged hot weather, with real-feel temperatures approaching 40°C between January and late May.

Under the standard dress code, female students wear shirts with skirts or trousers, while male students wear shirts and trousers. Both are also required to wear ties.

The ministry introduced the temporary measure in response to concerns over students wearing formal uniforms during the hottest period of the year.

Although temperatures eased with the onset of the southwest monsoon, the arrangement remained in place until the end of the first school term.

Schools reopened on Sunday following the 16-day first-term break, with students returning in their official uniforms.

Under the revised arrangement, activity uniforms will now only be worn on days designated by individual schools.

According to the academic calendar, students are scheduled to complete 199 school days this year.

The next national examinations on the academic calendar are the O-Level and A-Level examinations, which are due to take place in October and November.
