Fairoosh resigns as state minister

Dr Abdulla Fairoosh, a former Assistant Commissioner of Police who was serving as State Minister at the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, has resigned from his position.

Fairoosh announced his resignation on social media on Thursday, stating that the decision was made after careful consideration.

In his statement, he said he believed it was the appropriate time to conclude his period of service in government.

Fairoosh thanked those who had given him the opportunity to serve the country and expressed appreciation to colleagues and the public institutions in which he had worked.

He did not provide further details regarding the reasons for his resignation.

Before joining the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, Fairoosh served as a State Minister at the Ministry of Higher Education.

He was transferred to the Homeland Ministry in October 2024.

Fairoosh retired from the Maldives Police Service in 2021 after serving in the force for several years and reaching the rank of Assistant Commissioner.

Following his retirement, he became involved in politics and was seen participating in campaign activities for Maldives National Party presidential candidate Mohamed Nazim during the first round of the 2023 presidential election.

The government has not yet announced a replacement for the position.
