Businesses and NGOs invited to observe MDP congress

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has opened applications for businesses, non-governmental organisations, clubs and music groups to participate as observers at its upcoming national congress.

The congress is scheduled to be held on 19 September.

MDP Chairperson and former President Mohamed Nasheed announced the opening of observer registration on Sunday and released application forms for interested organisations and community groups.

According to Nasheed, observers will be able to attend congress proceedings and participate in discussions with local councils and representatives of what he described as the “next MDP government”.

Nasheed also said the congress will include an investment forum featuring more than 100 projects proposed by island and city councils.

He stated that the projects presented at the forum would be available for discussion with councils and other stakeholders attending the event.

Businesses seeking observer status will be required to pay a participation fee, Nasheed said.

The date for the MDP National Congress was confirmed on 2 August.

The congress is expected to bring together party members, council representatives and invited observers to discuss party matters and development proposals from councils across the country.
