Woman dies following gas leak at Malé residence
Police identified the deceased as Zahida Thaufeeq, 51, registered under Dhaftharu number RS 6210 in Malé.
A 51-year-old woman died on Thursday following a gas leak at a residence in Malé, while another woman is receiving treatment in hospital, police said.
The incident occurred at a house in M. Dilkusha Goalhi, an alley near the Scoop Restaurant area. Police said the incident was reported at about 10:34am.
Two people affected by the gas leak were initially taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in critical condition.
Citing hospital authorities, police said one of them later died.

A 19-year-old woman who was also affected by the incident is receiving treatment at ADK Hospital, according to police.
Police have not disclosed further details on what caused the gas leak. An investigation is under way.
The incident comes days after a gas cylinder explosion caused a fire in Malé on Monday.
Four foreign nationals were injured in that incident. Hospital officials said at the time that two of them were in serious condition.
