Dhidhdhoo Council has raised concern over an increase in children under the age of 18 being outdoors at night without adult supervision.

In a notice issued on Saturday, the council said it had observed a growing number of children remaining outside after 9pm without a parent or guardian.

The council said the situation could have negative social and behavioural effects on children.

It urged civil society organisations, vocational training centres and educational institutions to take the issue into account when organising activities involving children.

The council also appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that children do not go out around the island unsupervised after 9pm.
