Former Agriculture Minister Dr Mariyam Mariya has been appointed Ambassador-at-Large.

Mariya was appointed to the post on 3 September, according to information obtained. However, her name has yet to be added to the section of the President’s Office website listing ambassadors.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also not issued a separate announcement regarding her appointment.

Before being appointed Agriculture Minister, Mariya served as Minister of Higher Education in the current administration.

She resigned as Agriculture Minister on 14 April, when several cabinet ministers stepped down following the results of this year’s local council elections.

Some of the ministers who resigned at the time have since been appointed to diplomatic posts.
