Police probe assault, robbery of foreign woman in R. Maduvvari
Police said the case was reported at around 6pm on Friday as an incident in which a foreign woman was allegedly assaulted and money was stolen from her.
Police are investigating the alleged assault and robbery of a foreign woman in Raa Atoll Maduvvari after a video showing a man restraining her on a road circulated on social media.
The video shows the man holding the woman down on the road during the daytime and covering her mouth with his hand as she cries and attempts to call for help.
A Maldivian who witnessed the incident intervened and told the man to release the woman. The video shows the man releasing her and being warned by the person recording the incident.
Police said the case was reported at around 6pm on Friday as an incident in which a foreign woman was allegedly assaulted and money was stolen from her.
No arrests have been made so far, police said.
The case remains under investigation.
