Civil Court Judge Abdulla Ihusaan resigned on Wednesday after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) investigation committee concluded that misconduct allegations against him had been substantiated and decided to recommend his dismissal.
Ihusaan had been under investigation by the JSC following allegations of sexual harassment involving Civil Court employees.
The JSC investigation committee concluded on 12 October that disciplinary misconduct had been established in the case.
Following its findings, the committee decided to refer the matter to the commission with a recommendation to dismiss Ihusaan from his position.
However, it remains unclear whether the JSC had formally approved his dismissal at a commission meeting before he submitted his resignation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the JSC confirmed that Ihusaan had submitted his resignation as a judge.
The commission said his resignation took effect on Wednesday, following receipt of his resignation letter.
The investigation was initiated after Civil Court employees submitted complaints to the JSC alleging that Ihusaan had sexually harassed members of staff.
In a separate matter, Civil Court employees have also filed a complaint with the JSC against Judge Hafiza Abdulsattar over concerns about her treatment of staff.
The JSC has not disclosed the outcome of that complaint.
