President Ibrahim Solih on Saturday appealed to the members of parliament to support him and bring MDP to power if they want to be re-elected to parliament in 2024.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of President Solih's campaign office near Madhandu Avashu Police Station this evening, President Solih said that 2024 seems to be more important to MDP members of the People's Majlis than in 2023. However, based on experience, President Solih said that it would not be possible for MDP to win the parliament seats and win a majority in the parliament without being in power.

The President also pointed out that it was a political fact that the current members of the party could not defend the seats without winning the presidential election.

"We should do what we should do first. That's what we're looking for 2023. Let me win this primary. After that, we should think about 2024. We know how to win the elections. We should go down that path," he said, addressing MDP lawmakers who did not support President Solih.

'I am the choice to sustain positive change'

Noting that it is clear how to come to power, President Solih said there are two paths ahead. One is that that the party will crash on the streets again shouting "let go". Otherwise, the next option would be to field him as a candidate so that he can win the election.

Noting that MDP may not be able to retain power in the upcoming presidential elections otherwise, president Solih said that people should vote for him to maintain development, peace, reforms and freedom brought to the entire country. Therefore, President urged MDP members to take a decision in such a way that MDP’s achievements can be sustained.
