MVR 5 Villimale bus charge to kick in from Friday

MTCC urges people to take enough money for a direct ticket and take buses.

MTCC announced on Thursday that it will start charging for bus services in Villimale from Friday. MTCC has decided to charge MVR 5 per trip/passenger.

The bus service in Villimale was started on December 20. To date, no fee has been charged from the service. Buses started operating in Villimale using eco-friendly electric buses and they offer a seating capacity of 15 passengers per bus.

The Villimale bus service will be run 24 hours a day. In addition, there are three methods of payment for the bus fares. They are:

  • QR tickets via website and RTL app

  • Contactless, via Visa and Mastercards

  • Paper tickets in buses

MTCC said that like the bus service provided in Male, there will be a box inside the bus to deposit payment while buying paper tickets in the buses in Villimale. There wont be change available on the bus, it said. Thus:

Even if you the company has stated charging for bus rides, some people can still travel for free. They are:

  • Children under the age of 3 years 

  • Senior citizens above 65 years of age 

  • Persons with disabilities 

  • Students wearing school uniforms

RTL bus service was launched in Villimale, when the Male City Council, which is with the opposition party, has decided to provide buggy services in the area.
