Male City Council is all set to launch the buggy service in Villimale on March 16, with the council to provide the service free of cost till Eid-ul-Fitr.
Male Mayor Dr Mohamed Muizzu made the announcement in a tweet on Tuesday.
"Will take the buggies to Villimale on Thursday evening. One week later, on Thursday, March 16, will start the service of the buggy. The journeys on the Buggy routes will remain free till Eid-ul-Fitr," Muizzu said.
Muizzu said that even if buggy shuttling on the normal route are free till Eid-ul-Fitr is over, private rides will be charged.
MVR 2 has been decided as charge for the service of the buggy. Therefore, after the end of the fasting month and Eid-ul-Fitr, a person will be charged MVR 2 for each trip.
If a buggy is rented for private trips, then for a trip:
-
Four-seat buggy - MVR 6.
-
6-seat buggy - MVR 10.
-
12-seat buggy - MVR 15.
Students in uniform, those below the age of six, those above 65 years of age and differently-abled persons registered with NSPA will be able to travel in the buggy free of cost.
On January 20, the government handed over the RTL bus service to MTCC while the council was working to provide buggy services in Villimale. The service charges MVR 5 per person.
When the council was about to start the buggy service in Villimale, MTCC launched its bus service and the city council criticised it as a waste of money.
