Dr Ibrahim Musthafa, a biomedical research scientist who contributed to the health sector in the Maldives, particularly in raising awareness about thalassemia, passed away on Thursday in Kochi, India, after an extended illness.
Originally from Addu, Dr Musthafa played a role in the development of the Maldives Blood Service and later worked with SHE. At the time of his passing, he was serving as Assistant Professor of Biomedical Science at the Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates, where he resided with his family.
Health professionals and colleagues have expressed condolences following his death, noting his involvement in public health education and his contributions to healthcare services. Many have shared messages on social media, reflecting on the impact of his work in the sector.
Dr Musthafa’s funeral is scheduled to take place in Kochi after evening prayers on Friday.
