Criminal Court on Saturday extended the remand of an Indian arrested last month in connection with a case of human trafficking.
The 20-year-old man, identified as Venkataramana Palla, was produced before Criminal Court on Saturday after his initial 15-day remand expired. The court extended the remand by another 15 days.
The man, who lives in a guesthouse in Henveiru ward, is accused of trying to smuggle people or participating in human trafficking.
According to the remand order, he is accused of being involved in an organised human trafficking ring that commits such crimes both in the Maldives and abroad.
The police are yet to reveal any details.
