Those completing their medical and dental internships will get an allowance of MVR 400 for every day they attend to work, government announced on Sunday.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday announced the change in the salary of health workers and announced intern allowance for those who complete their medical and dental internships.

Details of intern allowances were revealed at a press conference held at the President's Office on Sunday evening to share the details of salary. Mohammad Faisal, Secretary General at the pay commission, said that those who have completed their internship and those who agree to serve will be given an allowance of MVR 400 per day they work to complete their internship.

In addition, anyone who has undergone professional training to complete a psychology licence and counselling license, who has not been given a permanent job, will get MVR 400 per day he/she works to complete the training.

Meanwhile, President Solih also announced the government's decision to provide scholarships and loans to develop Maldivians in the health sector.

From Monday onwards, the salary of health workers will be revised as the current salary of health workers is not commensurate with the amount and quality of work the employees are doing in the sector. Increasing the number of locals interested in the sector and improving the quality of services are also main reasons behind the pay revision.
