June power bill to include WAMCO charges
Only households using more than 34 power units will be charged for waste collection

STELCO's next electricity bill will include garbage collection charges, the company said on Sunday.
In a bid to address the issue of many households not paying for waste collection services by WAMCO in the Male area, the environment ministry has decided to include waste collection fee in STELCO's electricity bill.
After completing the preparations, WAMCO and STELCO on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to merge the bills. At a function held at STELCO:

Managing Director Ahmed Shareef signed the agreement on behalf of STELCO

Managing Director Yusuf Siraj signed on behalf of WAMCO
As part of the agreement, STELCO will include waste collection charges for the duration of the bill in the electricity service bill.

For instance, if the billing cycle for electricity is 25 days, waste fee will also be included for 25 days

Only households using more than 34 power units will be charged for waste collection
Replying to questions from reporters after the ceremony, STELCO Managing Director Shareef said that once the garbage collection fee is merged with STELCO's electricity bill, it will charge for the service at the rate of MVR 2.5 per bill for the administrative work required.
The rules to be followed along with this service, which will be provided under guidelines for registration of waste management services, have also been notified on Sunday.
According to the regulations issued by the environment ministry:

Charges for any service provided prior to the billing cycle shall not be included in the bill sent for the billing cycle

Any penalty for non-payment of money for waste collection services before combining the bills should not be included under this agreement
