Maldives GDP will reach MVR 177b by 2028, pres says
He said the government was setting up in the north and south of the country economic pillars that would raise the entire country together.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said on Saturday that his government has taken the necessary steps in the past five years to ensure a resilient economy, which will allow the country's GDP to reach MVR 177 billion by 2028.
At a special ceremony held in Addu Maradhoo on Saturday, President Solih inaugurated the land reclamation project in Addu.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih said that by the end of 2028, the country's economy will double and that will be one of the biggest changes that can be brought about.

In 2018, the country's GDP stood at MVR 81 billion

Five years later from now, the economy will be doubled to MVR 177 billion by 2028

All necessary efforts for that is underway
In his speech, the president said that the GDP at the end of last year was not up to the mark. According to government estimates, the GDP stood at MVR 92 billion by the end of 2022.
He said the government was setting up in the north and south of the country economic pillars that would raise the entire economy. The president noted that Addu is one of the most important place for development.
