Urbanco on Tuesday asked Jaah Investments to complete its The Gardens residential development, which has been pending for more than five years, within 30 days.
The construction of The Gardens in Hulhumale Phase I was awarded to Jaah, a real estate company affiliated with prominent construction firm Jausa, in 2017.
-
The company had two years to complete the development
-
The work is still pending
-
Jaah said the work was delayed due to Covid-19 and non-availability of staff and materials
Urbanco said it has issued a notice to complete the work within a stipulated time frame after an enquiry into the project.
"After further examination of the matter, Jaah investment has been given 30 days to complete the work and pay the land value due to Urbanco," Urbanco said in a statement.
"It is pertinent to note that the corporation has given several opportunities to Jaah Investments to complete the works from time to time before issuing such notices."
Jaah had said in February that the work would resume in collaboration with a Nepal-based company called Avhiru Constructions and be completed by September.
While work has come to a standstill despite Urbanco extending the deadline on four occasions, there have been grievous instances in the past like non-payment of salaries to workers of and impounding of their passports.
The company is also on the list of companies that have not paid taxes for the latest term released by MIRA.
