Democrats to hold founding rally on Wednesday

The Democrats, led by former MDP president Mohammed Nasheed, will hold a rally on Wednesday evening to form the party.
Elections Commission on Sunday granted the permission for Democrats to form the party.
In a subsequent announce, Democrats said that founding rally will be held at 8:30pm on Wednesday at Ghiyasuddin International School hall.
At a press conference, party founder Hassan Latheef congratulated all Democrats on the approval to form the party and asked as many members as possible to attend the rally.
Meanwhile, parliament speaker Nasheed, who is yet to formally join the party, said he will also attend the rally.
According to the law, when the Elections Commission grants the permission:

The party's charter should be drafted and a rally should be held to approve it

The rally to form a political party must have at least 300 members in attendance

The commission must be notified in writing three days prior to the rally and the media must be invited to the rally

The rally for the formation of a political party shall be attended by two representatives of the commission

The political party will be officially registered only after the rally's quorum is confirmed and signed by a senior member of the commission
