Villa Group has officially begun the project to install solar panels on the roofs of its own Villa International Airport and the company’s office buildings in ADh. Maamigili.
Villa International Airport Manager Abdul Hannan Ibrahim told Atoll Times on Monday that the solar panels installed under the project will generate enough electricity for the entire island at certain times of the day.
"Mamigili is currently using about 1 MW of electricity. Our solar panels are expected to generate about 2.5 MW," he said.
"The whole of Maamigili can be covered almost at a certain time of the day”.
Villa has also applied for permission to install panels on the roofs of government buildings in Mamigili, but he said the permission has not been given yet.
"Installation will take about four months to complete the project," Hannan said.
The project is being implemented by the Villa Company headquarters. The cost of the project, the total number of panels to be installed and other details are not available.
