Flat recipients announced; all eligible applicants to get flats

Complaints will be accepted till August 22.

Housing ministry on Tuesday released the provisional list of eligible flat applicants under the Gedhoruveriya scheme, with plans to provide flats to all eligible applicants. 

A total of 20,697 applicants had applied for flats under the Gedhoruveriya scheme: 

  • a three-room apartment — 14,489 applications

  • a two-room apartment — 6,208 applications

In a gazette notification on Monday, the housing ministry said that prior to publicising the final list, the authenticity of the information provided in the forms of the eligible applicants in the provisional list will be verified.

If the information is not verified, the instructions made at the time of filing the application will be complied with, the ministry said.

Complaints will be accepted till August 22.

State-run Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), which implements government's housing projects, is already building 4,000 housing units in Hulhumale Phase II under the Gedhoruveriya scheme. All the housing units will be completed in 2025, the housing ministry had earlier said.

The 4,000 housing units are being constructed through Indian loans and by two Indian companies.

  • India's JMC Projects has been awarded 2,000 units at a cost of USD 137 million

  • India's NBCC has been awarded USD 130 million to build the remaining 2,000 units

  • These units will be developed as 17 or 18-storey towers

  • 32 towers to be constructed; each tower will have 128 apartments

These housing units include:

  • 1,200 two-bedroom apartments; 650 sqft in each apartment

  • 2,800 three-bedroom apartments; 900 sqft in each apartment

Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL) of India has been awarded another project to build an additional 4,000 flats in the Male region at a cost of USD 165 million (MVR 2.65 billion).
