Candidates contesting the upcoming presidential election have been assigned candidate numbers on Wednesday.
Candidate numbers were sorted at a ceremony held at the Elections Commission's election headquarters at Dharubaaruge at 4:30 pm on Wednesday. As of the ceremony, no candidate has withdrawn their name, the commission said.
Names were arranged by each candidate or their representative from the order in which the candidacy was submitted.

Eight candidates are contesting the presidential election, the largest number of candidates contesting a presidential election to date.
There are 30 days left to vote in the election, which is slated for September 9.
