President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih said on Saturday that no party that formed a coalition with the MDP for the upcoming presidential election has any selfish desires, and his coalition partner and tourism businessman Ahmed Siyam Mohamed is “self -sufficient”.

Addressing supporters in N. Kudafari, the president said he had a team with great political experience.

At the rally held at the Kudafari harbour area, the president praised Meedhoo MP and coalition partner MDA President Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, who hails from the island.

The president said Siyam had "no selfish desires" and he did not want "a lagoon or an island".

“He is satisfied [self-sufficient],” he said, noting that some politicians are working for their personal gain.

"There is no one in this coalition who is here with ulterior motives, like wanting a lagoon, an island, or for forgiveness of debt owed to the state”.

Praising the team that formed a coalition with the president for a second term, he said this was a good opportunity to test them and the team with him was the leadership that knew the very pulse of the peoples hearts.

He and his coalition partners have only one goal and that is to serve the people, he said.

The president is visiting islands during his campaign tours and pledging what he will do for them given a second term. In similar fashion, the President made promises in Kudafari. These include:

  • Building houses to resolve the housing problem

  • Housing loans at 6% interest with 10% equity for those who want to build on their own land

  • A science lab for the school

  • Environmentally friendly road construction

  • ATM service

  • Increase the service hours of the health centre to 16 hours, and construct a new building to provide the service 24 hours

  • Protect the surfing point
