Draws among recipients of free land under the government's Binnveriya scheme will be begin on Tuesday, with the location, date and time of the draw communicated to the applicants to via the dedicated Gedhoruveriya portal.

Housing ministry has announced the final list of 18,955 land recipients on Sunday. The ministry said the location and plot number of the land will be known by drawing lots.

Speaking at a press conference held by the ministry at Galolhu National Stadium on Monday evening, housing ministry's Director Mohamed Arif said:

  • The draw will start at 11 am on Tuesday

  • After 10pm Monday evening, the portal will send the applicants a message informing them of the location, date and time

  • Everyone will get an hour

  • The draw will be held on Tuesday at Galolhu National Stadium

  • The draw will be held on Thursday at Henveiru Stadium

Arif said if the person whose name is on the land form cannot attend the draw, a replacement will have to be notified through the portal.

"We will start allotting the land from Hulhumale first. Hopefully on Tuesday we will contact those who can take plots from the available land in Hulhumale to know when and where to demarcate the plot," he said.

Arif said the work of demarcating the land plots in Hulhumale will also start on Tuesday evening.

The housing ministry has earlier said that the permanent registration of land will be handed over to all land recipients before November 11.

In July, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced that the administration plans to allocate 2,000 housing plots in Gulhifalhu while reserving another 2,000 for the housing scheme in Giraavarufalhu.

Land reclamation in Giraavarufalhu is underway and has already reclaimed 20 hectares of land.

The Binveriya scheme, which is reserved for Male natives, also includes allocating 2,200 plots in Hulhumale, bringing the total number of land plots granted under the plan to 6,200.
