Remaining flats allocation after evaluating 15,000 forms
Muththalib noted a considerable decline in the number of applicants who scored above the required threshold.
Housing Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib said on Thursday that 1,820 people have qualified for the list of flat recipients under the Gedhoruveriya scheme, with the remaining flats to be given after evaluating the forms of the ineligible people on the previous list.
At a press conference, Muththalib noted a considerable decline in the number of applicants who scored above the required threshold. Previously, 3,721 people had secured 75 or more points for three-bedroom flats, but now only 1,423 have achieved that score, leaving 2,298 applicants off the list.
Similarly, the number of applicants eligible for two-bedroom flats with a score above 73 points has also dropped. The earlier list included 1,218 individuals, but now only 397 have met the requirement, resulting in 821 people being excluded.
Before the latest verification process, the government had announced the following numbers of eligible applicants:
-
4,939 applicants for two-bedroom flats
-
3,721 applicants for three-bedroom flats
Following the verification, a total of 1,820 flats have been assigned. The remaining flats will be allocated after evaluating an additional 15,000 applications. The minister stated that this process will take approximately four months.
Muththalib emphasised that no flats would be reassigned to individuals who were already included in the list announced on November 15, 2023.
"We will verify the remaining forms and award points. However, no flat will be given to anyone who was already included in the announced list. Complaints will be considered during the designated period, and if someone wishes to challenge our decision through other means, the remaining flats will still be assigned to designated recipients. This does not mean that we will be taking a flat away from someone to give it to another person," he clarified.
The minister also shared details regarding rent and loan repayment costs for the flats under the scheme. The government has subsidised loan repayment costs, and tenants will pay the following amounts:
Two-bedroom apartments:
-
Monthly rent: MVR 7,000
-
Maintenance fee: MVR 1,000
