The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has begun imposing fines on people who dump garbage in its flats in the second phase of Hulhumalé.

The corporation cleaned the area on Saturday after complaints about waste left in public spaces near security towers and on ground floors of buildings. Within days, garbage was again present at the site.

FDC said it resumed cleaning Tuesday and stated that action will be taken against those who dump waste in breach of its rules. The corporation also called on residents to maintain cleanliness.

According to FDC, dumping or placing waste in corridors, walkways, or outside tower areas is a violation of its regulations. Household waste must be placed only in bins on ground floors. The owner of a unit is responsible for disposing of boxes, bottles, and other items from moving into units in line with the rules.

The corporation said it has received complaints that waste dumping is causing inconvenience to residents and creating risks to public health and safety.

FDC towers have been occupied for a few months. Residents have been moving into apartments, and boxes and furniture have been left outside. Waste has accumulated in parts of the area.

FDC stated that dumping household waste in public areas is prohibited and that disposal is the responsibility of the unit owner.
