No interference in revised flat list, president says
The president assured that if any valid concerns are raised, they will be addressed fairly.
President Mohamed Muizzu on Thursday said that the flat list under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ housing scheme is the first of its kind in Maldivian history—completely free from external influence.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the official jetty in Male, the president emphasised the fairness and transparency of the process, assuring the public that the list was compiled without any form of interference.
The list, which was published on Thursday, follows a thorough review of the 4,000 recipients initially selected by the previous government. Following this reassessment, it was determined that only 1,800 individuals met the eligibility criteria.
"This is the first time since I started learning about housing in the Maldives and working in various capacities, from the most junior level to various government departments, that a list of uninfluenced housing recipients has been released. There will be no influence," President Muizzu stated.
To ensure fairness, the government has opened a one-month window for complaints regarding the list. The president assured that if any valid concerns are raised, they will be addressed fairly.
"If there is anything that has not been investigated, please file a complaint. I am sure that no one has been deliberately removed from the list," he said, reaffirming the government's commitment to upholding justice in the allocation process.
President Muizzu also announced that those who were not included in the revised list would still have an opportunity to secure housing, as the government continues to assess applications based on revised criteria.
Additionally, he revealed ambitious plans for housing development:
-
Thousands of new housing units will be built across Male, Hulhumale, and Gulhifalhu within the year.
-
Construction will commence in Giraavaru Falhu after the completion of dredging work.
-
Further developments will follow in Rasmale after necessary land reclamation efforts.
"When all this is completed, every citizen over the age of 18 in Male and those living in the city will, hopefully, be provided with housing. I assure you that," President Muizzu stated.
The president reiterated that his administration has no intention of depriving any rightful recipient of their housing opportunity. He emphasised that all complaints will be fairly reviewed, and any individual found to have been unjustly removed from the list will have their situation rectified.
