A six-year-old girl sustained serious injuries after she tripped on a wire laid out for electrical work inside Ghaazee School.
It is learned that on the 4th of this month, a first grader was injured when she fell on an electric wire that was laid out on the ground to do electrical work inside the school compound on the occasion of Teachers' Day.
The six-year-old had been on her way to the health room with another student of her class because of stomach pain.
The student's father, Saudullah Didi, said:
-
The child fell and broke her right arm; her hand is fractured in three places
-
A 'growth' bone on her arm had also shattered; due to the damage of the bone at that age of development, the child may experience disability in the future, doctors said
-
The child had to undergo a four-hour surgery for treatment
-
The girl was released home after three iron rods were placed in her arm
Saudullah believes that the school was very negligent in this regard. As a first step, he pointed out, for each grade 1 class, parents were asked to pool MVR 1,800 to make a flooring within school compound for the benefit of the students, and this work had been carried out while children were attending school.
According to him:
-
Doing such work in a place where there are children puts them at risk
-
There was no one to supervise the work site while such work was going on
-
He also expressed concern about sending 6-year-olds to such unsafe environments, that too while unwell, alone and unsupervised
"We send our precious children to school hoping they will be protected there. Isn't it because of the lack of care of the school that students are suffering such serious injuries?"
He said his daughter was seriously injured and admitted to hospital without a single word from the school authorities. A school official called to check on her child four days later, the parent said.
"We still have to go to the hospital. But nobody from the school has even visited her on account of such a serious injury she had suffered on school grounds," he said.
"Mentally, we and our daughter have been affected deeply. She cries every night because she cant even sleep. The negligence of the people who took responsibility from where our daugher started her education has done irreparable damage."
