President-elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu has promised to celebrate Victory Day in a big way in his government.
Every year, November 3 is celebrated as Victory Day to commemorate the terrorist attack on Maldives on November 3, 1988, when a group of Maldivians led a failed armed coup in conjunction with a Sri Lankan militant group.

The incumbent government also does not attach much importance to celebrating Victory Day
In a post on X, President-elect Muizzu said that the remembrance of Victory Day should be renewed and information about the day should be provided to the youth especially.
“The government will pay full attention to Victory Day from 2024 onwards,” he said.
