A step toward economic development was taken on Monday with the signing of an agreement to build a commercial port in Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo.
The project is a component of President Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to establish Kudahuvadhoo as an urban centre, one of seven such hubs planned across the Maldives.
The agreement was signed by Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed on behalf of the government and Managing Director Mohamed Rishwan on behalf of Maldives Ports Limited. The president, currently on a tour of Dhaalu Atoll, visited Kudahuvadhoo to reaffirm his commitment to initiating the port’s construction during his administration.
President Muizzu emphasised the significance of the port, stating that the project aligns well with regional development needs. He also pledged to ensure that Kudahuvadhoo’s port becomes the most fully functioning port under his leadership.
Beyond the port, the president highlighted that several other key projects will be implemented to support Kudahuvadhoo’s growth. One of the major upcoming initiatives includes the expansion of the local hospital, which is expected to enhance healthcare services for the region.
