Maldives appoints ex-VP to head new international finance authority
On 22 June 2016, he was appointed as the Vice President of the Republic of Maldives by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Former Vice President Abdullah Jihad has been appointed as the Chairman of the Maldives International Financial Services Authority.
President Mohammed Muizzu announced the establishment of the agency in January. The President said at the time:

Announcing the establishment of the authority and the appointment of Jihad as its chairman, Economic Minister Mohammed Saeed wrote in X on Tuesday evening that he is confident that President Muizzu's vision to transform the financial sector of the country will become a reality.
Jihad was appointed as the special advisor to Jumhoory Party leader Gasim Ibrahim in February last year. He resigned from the post and joined the PPM in the second round of the last presidential election.
