More than 350 people have applied for the PPM-PNC parliamentary primary and 10 constituencies have been confirmed so far.
The deadline for nominations for the PPM-PNC primary to be held on December 23 expired on Monday.
According to reliable sources in the PPM-PNC, 354 candidates have submitted their nomination forms for the primary.
With only one candidate contesting and some candidates withdrawing their nominations, 10 positions have so far been confirmed without a primary. The number is likely to increase as some candidates are still being nominated.
Some of the candidates who have secured tickets from the PPM-PNC so far are:
-
Fonadhoo Constituency: Special Advisor to the President, PNC Chairman Abdul Raheem Abdullah
-
Eydhafushi Constituency: Current Member of Parliament and PPM Parliamentary Group Leader Ahmed Saleem (Red Wave Saleem)
-
Baarah Constituency: Former Member of Parliament and current Hulhumale Constituency Councilor Ibrahim Shujau
-
Mahibadhoo Constituency: Already the Member of Parliament Ahmed Thorig
-
Galolhu South Constituency; The area councilor Ibrahim Mohammed
The numbers are likely to change depending on the candidates of the two parties, as both the MDA and MNP have been given the opportunity to contest the primary.
