An agreement has been signed with a company to install an additional elevator in the Hiyaa flats, President Mohammed Muizzu announced on Saturday. The work has now begun, he said.
Installing more elevators in Hiyaa flats is a presidential promise. On December 25, President Muizzu visited the Hiyaa flat area and announced that the project was in the process of being signed.
The President announced on his Saturday visit to the area that the agreement has now been signed and work has begun to fulfil that promise.
"There are some things that we plan to take forward in Hulhumale second phase, or the Hiyaa area. [That is] what the people want the most. For one thing, more lifts should be installed in these towers. As decided by the government, now HDC has started work and entered into an agreement with the people to bring in lifts and install the lifts," he said at a campaign meeting for the mayoral elections to be held next Saturday.
"Hopefully, we will install the elevators soon”.
The President announced that the elevator had been awarded to someone but did not give any further details. Urbanco has not yet announced the contractor or the price.
At the event, the President added that the Hiyaa area still needs a lot of things. Among them, two more schools and a hospital should be built in the area, he said. The President assured that the government would meet the overall needs of the area.
