Maldives has the longest-standing and closest relationship with India.

Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has been suggested to be summoned to parliament for questioning over the misconduct of three Deputy Ministers of the Maldives in relation to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

MDP's South Galolhu MP Ahmed Meekail Naseem has confirmed on 'X' that he has proposed to summon Zameer to parliament.

The questions Meekail have for Zameer to answer in parliament:

  • Why has the government not officially apologized for insulting the Prime Minister of India on social media?

  • Why are the deputy ministers not sacked?

As Parliament is currently on vacation, unless a special session is called for that purpose, Zameer will be summoned at the earliest when the fourth session of Parliament begins next February.

In addition to questioning Zameer, Meekail has also asked the Foreign Relations Committee to produce the three suspended deputy ministers and all related government officials to the case.

According to a letter sent to the parliamentary office, relations between India and Maldives have deteriorated following the insults and humiliation of the country by three state ministers on social media. Due to that:

  • The country's economy could suffer irreparable damage

  • Maldivians who depend on India for medical treatment and basic needs may face difficulties

  • Maldives has the longest-standing and closest relationship with India

Therefore, Meekail asked the committee to present the relevant authorities and ensure that the government takes appropriate action on the issue.
