A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing a watch valued at MVR 67,500 from a shop in Malé while allegedly disguising himself in a face veil.
According to court records, the incident involved the theft of an Omega brand watch, which remains unrecovered. Police informed the Criminal Court that the stolen item is believed to have been sold to another individual.
Authorities allege that the robbery was planned by three individuals. The arrest warrant stated that the suspect entered the shop dressed in women’s clothing, wearing a face.
The Criminal Court did not confirm whether the other two individuals suspected of being involved in the planning of the theft had been apprehended.
The arrested individual has a prior criminal record, including offences related to shop theft, drug-related activities, possession of counterfeit currency, bicycle theft, and armed robbery.
