Court orders 5-day custody for 4 in airport dollar robbery
According to police, the robbery was carried out by masked men.

The Criminal Court on Tuesday ordered four individuals to be remanded in custody for five days in connection with the robbery of a Bank of Maldives (BML) briefcase containing US dollars at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Monday morning.
The incident occurred at around 4:45 a.m. on the walkway connecting the old terminal and the new terminal. According to police, the robbery was carried out by masked men. Reserve police security personnel were also present at the location at the time of the incident.
Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan said on X on Monday that the speedboat used in the crime had been recovered and that four suspects had been arrested.
The suspects were taken to the Criminal Court on Tuesday for a remand hearing, where the court ordered them to remain in custody for five days. Police have not released the identities of the suspects.
Sources confirmed to Atoll Times that the stolen briefcase contained more than USD 100,000, which had been transported by BML to be issued to people departing the Maldives. The robbers reportedly threatened a staff member with a knife before seizing the briefcase.
Police said no police security was used to withdraw the money. The suspects fled the scene by speedboat and travelled to K. Huraa following the robbery.
