Ex-domestic terminal opened to stranded passengers at VIA
A further 14 flights between the Maldives and the region were cancelled on Sunday due to the continuing situation in the Middle East.

The former domestic terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) has been arranged to accommodate passengers who have been unable to depart the Maldives due to flight cancellations linked to developments in the Middle East.
Eight flights from the Maldives to Gulf destinations were cancelled on Saturday, leaving around 1,400 passengers unable to travel, Tourism Minister Thoriq Ibrahim said.
Speaking to state media, the minister said the departure hall of the former domestic terminal has been made available for affected passengers, with seating and Wi-Fi provided.
“Accommodation, chairs and Wi-Fi are being provided for tourists, and passengers are being transferred to the area,” he said.
He added that space beneath the restaurants located in front of the former domestic terminal will also be opened for passenger use.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has also provided blankets and pillows for passengers remaining at the airport.

The Ministry of Tourism has advised resorts and guesthouses to confirm airline schedule changes before arranging transport for guests to travel to the airport.
