President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that attacks in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East should not be directed at Muslim countries and reaffirmed the Maldives’ position against the war.

The President made the remarks on Monday during a press conference held at the President’s Office in response to a question from a journalist.

He said that no party involved in the conflict should be carrying out attacks. He added that attacks targeting Muslim Arab nations result in loss of life and damage to infrastructure.

“Iran’s counter-attacks should be directed at Israel and those targeting Iran—specifically US and Israeli interests. This should occur in a manner that ensures no harm comes to Muslims in the region,” the President said.

He further stated that no action should undermine the sovereignty or economy of any country.

“This government will not accept any form of aggression directed toward any Muslim country,” he said.

The President described the conflict as a violation of international law and reiterated the government’s opposition to the war.

Commenting on the visit of a United States government representative to the Maldives, the President said the purpose of the visit would become clear after discussions. He added that he does not intend to discuss the conflict.

“I want to see what they wish to discuss. If it is about this war, I have nothing to discuss with them,” he said.

The President also stated that the Maldives will not allow its territory to be used for military purposes.

“We will not grant any opportunity for our territory to be used for military purposes, whether for overflights or landings,” he said.

He added that the Maldives will not provide space for actions directed against any Islamic country and called for an end to the conflict.
