The ruling Peoples’ National Congress (PNC) has been confirmed the presidency of the Kaafu Atoll Council since only one candidate filed their nominations.
The post of Kaafu Atoll Council President became vacant after the former PNC Vice President Mohammed Nimal resigned from the post on 24th last month. The deadline for applications for the post expired on 26th last month.
According to the announcement gazetted by the Election Commission on Sunday, only one candidate applied for the post during the opening period. It is Ahmed Anees, Olhuveli/K. Thulusdhoo, PNC.
According to the announcement, the PNC has won two council seats in two islands for only one candidate contesting during the allowed period:
