Main opposition Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) on Tuesday said it was taking action against its members who voted against the party's whip during the cabinet vote on Monday.
The MDP parliamentary group leader and Alifushi MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussain affirmed this at a press conference held on Tuesday, saying that action would be taken against the members who violated the whip, as per party regulations.
"Now we are looking at how many times the members violated the whip. The Secretary General of our parliamentary group is now doing that," Rasheed said.
MDP and The Democrats parliamentary groups had issued a three-line whip to reject four ministers ahead of the vote on the approval of the 22 ministers of incumbent president Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's first cabinet
The two parties decided to reject:
-
Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed
-
Attorney General Ahmed Usham
-
Islamic Minister Dr Mohammed Shaheem Ali Saeed
-
Housing Minister Dr Ali Haider
However, four MDP members had voted in favor of Saeed. They are:
-
Ihavandhoo MP Mohamed Shifau
-
Kulhudhuffushi South Constituency MP Jamsheed Mohamed
-
Bilehdhoo Constituency MP Ahmed Haleem
-
Fuvahmulah South MP Mohamed Mumtaz
