The Parliament secretariat has decided not to hold daily sittings.
Parliament meets three days a week from Monday to Wednesday. However, not all the days of last week or Monday’s sitting were held.
When contacted by Atoll Times, Parliamentary Communication Director Hassan Ziyau said that during a meeting with the parliamentary group leaders of the parties last Thursday, the leaders agreed not to hold the session every day as was being practiced.
“After discussions among the leaders of the parties, they agreed not to hold the session every day,” he said.
With that decision, the next session this week is scheduled for Wednesday, he said.

The parliament did not say why the PG leaders agreed to do so or for how long
-
However, it is believed that the decision was taken because the parties wanted their members to be free for campaign activities due to the upcoming parliamentary elections
According to Rule 47 of the Rules of Procedure, Parliament must meet at least three times a week.
