Dhiraagu, DNR inks agreement to combat scams calls
The agreement between Dhiraagu and DNR sets out the rules to be followed by the two agencies to share public information from the DNR database with Dhiraagu.
The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has said that the agreement made between the Department of National Registration (DNR) and Dhiraagu on Thursday will help in curbing fraud and scam calls that are being made via Dhiraagu SIMs.
The agreement between Dhiraagu and DNR sets out the rules to be followed by the two agencies to share public information from the DNR database with Dhiraagu.
The agreement was signed by Masood Ali, Director of Customer Services and Regional Operations. Deputy Minister Ahmed Ali signed on behalf of the DNR.
The Home Ministry announced that the DNR will share public information through the department's API authentication credentials.
Dhiraagu said the agreement will strengthen the validity of the national identity information submitted when applying for its services.
After signing the agreement at Dhiraagu, Ali said the agreement will provide additional security to Dhiraagu customers as well.
“I assure Dhiraagu of DNR's full cooperation in this regard,” he said.
Masood said it was a great pleasure to start such a digital project with the DNR.
“This will open up more channels of service to customers and provide more convenience,” he said.
Another outcome of sharing the information maintained by the DNR with Dhiraagu will be to help prevent scam calls, the ministry said.
"This is because when anyone goes to get a SIM card or takes any Dhiraagu services, their information can be verified using the information in the DNR. This will also prevent fraudulent SIM card withdrawal," the ministry statement said.
