An emergency motion has been submitted to the Parliament on Tuesday, urging the Government of Maldives to do what it can to prevent Israeli troops from invading Rafah, a Palestinian city in southern Gaza Strip.
The emergency motion was moved by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and Hoarafushi MP Ahmed Saleem.
The emergency bill passed for debate, with 22 votes in favour.
The case states:
-
Despite the pleas of millions of people around the world, the Israeli army is preparing to attack Rafah
-
As a result, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians already living in extreme poverty in Rafah are in extreme danger
"We demand that the government do everything possible at our level to prevent Israeli troops from entering Rafah, and to demonstrate that the Maldives parliament strongly opposes the atrocities committed by Israel," he said.
The government has recently raised its voice in favour of the Palestinian people on two international platforms.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved a plan to invade Rafah, home to an estimated 1.4 million Palestinians, in March. People all over the world are deeply worried about the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the inability of any party to stop it.
