The flight from Male, to Dhaka, Bangladesh, was cancelled on Saturday due to a technical problem.
According to a X post shared by Maldivian on Saturday, the problem occurred on an AirBus flight bound for Dhaka. Thus:
-
The flight was scheduled to leave Male for Dhaka at 9:25 am on Saturday
-
The flight was also scheduled from Male to Dhaka at 7:35 pm, Saturday
Maldivian airline apologises to customers who are experiencing difficulties due to the flight cancellation and asks customers who have alternative travel options to call 1671 or email for assistance.
Maldivian Corporate Sales Mohammed Naseer told Atoll Times on Saturday that the aircraft was in service due to a technical problem detected while flying to Trivandrum in June.
Saturday's flight was cancelled after post-service testing revealed another technical problem, he said. The problem is expected to be resolved and flights are expected to resume by Sunday, he said. He did not give details of the technical problem.
“Our top priority will always be the safety of passengers. If any issues arise before the flight departs, we will not proceed with the flight. Consequently, Saturday’s flight has been cancelled”, Naseer said.
This is the only large aircraft currently operating in Maldivian. When asked why there are issues repeating with the same plane, Naseer said the company had not noticed many issues with the Airbus.
Three options are being given to those who are facing difficulties due to the cancellation of Saturday's flight, according to Naseer: flying on another airline; flying in another Maldivian aircraft; a full refund for those who wish it.
